Gloucestershire Newborn Photographer / Baby Sohya 17 days old

As a Gloucestershire Newborn Photographer I get to meet so many lovely familes, but marketing a business isn’t easy and finding your customers is hard.  I’m so pleased that my exposure in Gloucester hospital brought baby Sohya to my Gloucester based photography studio.

Sohya’s parents travelled from Cirencester in October to have their new baby boy photographed before he grew out of the newborn stage.  Wow……. Sohya was so chilled and so tiny.  With the studio all warm and my studio light on we got straight into the session.

The ‘side’ pose

The session began on the beanbag where soft fabrics were laid to ensure Sohya’s comfort. As Sohya was so settled and sleepy we started the session with the ‘side’ pose.  As you can see he was so content and secure.  Mum and Dad where sitting watching the session unfold with a cuppa.

I have a sequence in which the poses are photographed in.  This enables a smooth transition from one pose to another,  with little disruption. Of course not every baby will be this chilled.  Should a baby be unsettled  I will adapt my flow to help the baby become more settled, and wrapping is the perfect way to start those sessions.

Adding accessories, such as hats, really adds to an image, but they never overpower the photo.  Sohya looked so adorable in this brown bonnet hat.

Sohya slept through one pose to the next.  Even putting on this cute bears bonnet didn’t disturb him.

I was so thrilled to have won first place for this image in November 2017.  Entering competitions isn’t something I would normally do. I like my customers to be the judges of my work. However, as I am a member of Banpas (Baby and Newborn Photography Association) I decided to enter their monthly competition.  So pleased I did!

It does amaze me how much newborns love this pose.  Being wrapped and curled up makes them feel lovely and secure just like they were in their Mother’s womb.

The ‘Potato Sack’ pose

The potato sack pose is a pose you either love or dislike.  So depending on how my customer feels it will be in or out of the sessions work flow.   I absolutely love Sohya in this pose.

We ended the session with prop shots.  Sohya’s parent chose this set up, which I adore.

I was over the moon with how pleased Sohya’s parents were with his gallery when them came to their viewing session, a few weeks later.  So happy and excited when they ordered this stunning piece of wall art too.

Not all sessions flow this well. My photography sessions are baby-led, so please be assured that should your baby be unsettled on the day of their shoot, the session will be adapted to your baby.  I’ll wrap them, give extra cuddles and you can giving them a bit more milk if needed.
